Biography 

Olivier Messager, is Managing Director of Nano-Inside. With 20 years of experience in industry and university in Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power Generation, CO2 free energies, water, semiconductor, silicon and instrumentation his areas of expertise include Intellectual Property, Market Research, Technology & Competitive Intelligence, Technology Commercialization, Business Planning & Development with a strong network in Europe and Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE).

As a Technology Transfer Officer for Lyon University and later Senior Business Developer for King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST), Olivier developed over 6 years various partnership schemes with industry (memberships, research collaboration, technology license, startup development) in Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Power Generation, CO2 free energies, water, semiconductor, silicon and instrumentation with SME and large corporations including Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Dow, Total, Solvay, Pall, EDF, Areva, Maaden, Cristal Global, Air Liquide, ExxonMobil, Veolia, TPG Art, Leosphere, SunPower, First Solar, Solar Frontier, Avancis, Saint Gobain, Hitachi, Sumitomo. Specifically he co-developed the FLAGSHIP Research initiative (large multi-partner research programs with Unique Selling Points aligned on KAUST Core competencies and Saudi Arabia market opportunities and competitive advantages) and the related public/private Investment/Business and IP models. 

As Regional Marketing & Sales Mgr for FEI Company between 2006 and 2008, Olivier has been instrumental in developing sales of Scanning Electron, Dual Beam and Transmission Electron microscopes and associated imaging softwares for various nanoresearch applications including semiconductor, solar cells, catalysis, nuclear materials, fuel cells, biology at major R&D labs in France (EDF, CEA, CNRS, Arcelor, Oreal, Corning, Peugeot, Renault).

Since 2004, Olivier has   been developing the Technology Marketing & Advisory firm Nano-Inside as Principal Consultant. In this role, he advised various companies and VC firms on Technology Protection & Licensing. Besides he conducted patentability and marketability analysis of CNRS nanotechnology innovations for technology transfer office FIST and managed their IP protection and commercialization. Eventually he supervised patent mapping and citation analysis projects (OLED /NVM)

As a Corporate Competitive Intelligence Analyst for ST Microelectronics between 2002 and 2004, Olivier worked on Technology Intelligence programs including Passive Component Integration and Advanced Packaging as enablers of wireless phone technology roadmaps. He was involved in mobile phone functional partitioning and integration gap identification , in extensive mobile phone and chip reverse engineering report analysis as well as component intelligence. Besides he supported extensive company profiling in the telecom, automotive and consumer electronics semiconductor application segments (technology, product, market, finance due diligence). Olivier’s missions were aligned on various Business Units: Chief Economics Officer Office (JC Dauvin), Corporate Back End R&D, Memory and Mobile Phone Business units. 

Prior to joining ST Microelectronics, Olivier managed the Semiconductor   Procurement Operations of Gemplus, the world leader in Smart Cards, from 1999 to 2002. In his position, he was specifically instrumental in the definition and implementation of a chip procurement and supplier portfolio strategy. Under his tenure, extensive supplier benchmarking & performance evaluation, timely and accurate semiconductor market intelligence, adequate reporting, development of advanced costing and sourcing tools and strategic negotiations led the company to consolidate its semiconductor supplier panel, to improve overall quality & service performances as well as to significantly reduce cost.

While Technical Support and Quality Manager from 1993 to 1996 of EPITECH, epitaxial wafer startup company in the power and discrete semiconductor industry, he provided team leadership in shaping the company organization and key processes to sustain a 70% Sales CAGR over a three year period. In his technical support role, he managed the technical relationships, the quality system audits and the organization of customer visits to the company plant. Clients included ST Microelectronics, NXP, Motorola, IRC, FUJI Electric , Misubishi, NEC. Eventually the company was acquired by the Japanese blank silicon vendor SUMCO.

Eventually Olivier started his career as QA Mgr at Sully Produits Spéciaux (Montreal-Canada) , the high technology glass subsidiary of material conglomerate SAINT-GOBAIN.

Olivier’s education includes a  BSc in Metrology & Quality Management, a MSc in Microelectronics Technology from ST University / Ecole Nationale des Mines de Saint Etienne , a MBA with honors from University of Southern California Marshall School of Business and a IPR Management certificate from University Paris XI.
